Albert Stuart Roach
1953 – 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Stuart Roach. Stu left us on March 25, 2025, at the age of 71.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1953, Stu graduated from Grant Park High School before attending Red River College, where he became a Journeyman Carpenter.
In 1979 he headed west, drawn to the forests and the ocean to start his family. Landing first on Vancouver Island before eventually settling on Gabriola Island, where Stu made his home for the next 42 years. His adventurous spirit led him on the journey of a lifetime in 2002. While traveling on another island across the world, he met Rose. Following his heart, he returned to Borneo and spent the last 20 years of his life splitting his time between the two places he loved most.
Stu is survived by his wife, Rose; ex-wife, Meta; son, Dave (Caroline); grandson, Dyson; sisters, Debbie, Linda (Peter), and Wendy (Don), and sisters-in-law Doris and Joanne. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Eleanor Roach, and his brothers, Frank and Mike.
A celebration of life will be held on Gabriola Island on August 9 at Gabriola Sands Provincial Park from 12-3.
