Mike Allen Presents
Jazz on Gabriola
Bruno Hubert is one of Canada’s most expressive jazz pianists, known for his deep groove, lush harmonies, and melodic imagination. His sound—rich with echoes of Erroll Garner, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, and Keith Jarrett—is both timeless and unmistakably his own. For over two decades, Hubert has been a cornerstone of Vancouver’s jazz scene, performing in intimate clubs and collaborating with top artists including Juno Award winner Brad Turner, Jaclyn Guillou, Denzal Sinclaire, Seamus Blake, Gino Vannelli, and Norah Jones.
Mike Allen presents Jazz on Gabriola will be welcoming Hubert on December 7th, 3pm, at the beautiful Phoenix Auditorium. Hubert will be accompanied by James Meger on bass, Joe Poole on drums, with guest Mike Allen on tenor saxophone. Mike is looking forward to playing with the trio, as their jazz paths have crossed many times, and it is always fun to play with friends.
One of the sponsors of the Jazz on Gabriola series, Michael Simard Productions, directed a film about a not-so-entirely fictitious musician, in which Bruno played the lead. The life of a talented but irresponsible jazz pianist takes tragic and comedic turns. The film is: Bruno’s Blues. A total of eight years in the making, released in 2014, it has become a Vancouver jazz cult classic. The levels of creativity are inspiring!
Tickets for the December 7th show are $30 at Nature Spirit Earth Market or via e-transfer at jazzongabriola@gmail.com. If you want to be in the know about what is coming up in the world of jazz on Gabriola, become a newsletter subscriber at jazzongabriola@gmail.com
