A new accounting firm will be serving as auditor for the Gabriola Fire Protection Improvement District in 2025.
At the Annual General Meeting held on June 18, property owners had put forward a motion to appoint Anna Jones with Doane Grant Thornton (DGT) from Nanaimo as the auditor.
Jones would replace Doug Parkhurst with KMA Chartered Professional Accountants out of Nanaimo, as the auditor.
At the August 6 meeting of the Fire Board, Trustees had received a quote from Doane Grant Thornton that they felt was enough of an increase from KMA’s 2024 invoice, to warrant providing that information to property owners.
This past Wednesday, September 3, the Board hosted a Special General Meeting of property owners. Ahead of the meeting, the Board solicited fresh quotes from Doane Grant Thornton, as well as KMA, to provide auditor services for the 2025 fiscal year. The quotes were $19,294 and $20,947 respectively.
Of the 29 property owners at the meeting, 22 of them voted in favour of keeping Doane Grant Thornton as the auditor.
The Board then voted to appoint Doane Grant Thornton as the auditor.
