Gabriola RCMP

The Gabriola Island RCMP have had a very successful year with our speed watch volunteers with an average two motorist education days per month.

On average the volunteers have checked 100 vehicles per shift with a positive response from the community.

Violation tickets are not being issued as a result of our volunteer program.  This program is strictly for educational purposes.  The Gabriola Island RCMP have been mailing out warning letters to registered owners who have been observed speeding in excess of 20kph over the posted speed limit.

Our primary focus is high traffic locations and areas of concern which include the school zone during school hours and playground zones such as Huxley park.

The Gabriola Island RCMP is seeking three (3) more volunteers who would like to participate in the program.  Community members who are interested will be required to go through a back ground check and be security cleared prior to engagement.  Should you have an interest in participating, please contact Cpl O’Brien with regards to process. He can be reached at the Nanaimo detachment at 250-754-2345.
