Gabriola Warming Centre

Gabriola is on the cusp of having its first bad weather night time Warming Centre at Agi Hall.

We need sufficient volunteers for split night shifts and supporting roles along with donations through People for a Healthy Community to make this happen.

I think most of us ache at the thought of anyone spending the night cold wet under a tarp, in a tent, shed, car, an inadequate moldy camper/trailer or shivering with no heat in inadequate housing.

Some volunteers are needed with face to face experience with marginalized and housing insecure people. Others are needed with current emergency First Aid or better. Mainly we need people with compassion and respect for their fellow man/woman in our community and a willingness to help. Our collaborating partner Fellowship Church will be doing a daytime cold weather centre.

Providing hot coffee, tea, chocolate, water, juices, snacks, smiles and a welcoming safe warm dry haven for the night.

Supporters are needed for a phone/contact tree, logistics, transportation coordination, social & other media presence / design / management / writing as well as tech assistance.

Every little step and effort can make a huge difference in someone’s life. Help us help our neighbors.

“Helping others brings deep satisfaction. No matter how powerful we may seem to be, our survival depends on the community. Clearly the community is crucial to individual happiness, so if we make others happy, we too derive benefit. We need to take action.

“However, if we act out of self-centredness, it will be difficult to be transparent, to earn others’ trust and friendship. By learning to be more warm-hearted we can create a more compassionate world.”
