Gabriola Chamber Ensemble

If your December isn’t complete without the glorious strains of the Hallelujah chorus ringing in your ears, you may be just the person the Gabriola Chamber Ensemble is looking for.

Selections from a seasonal favourite, The Messiah by G. F. Handel, are in the fall concert repertoire of the GCE, and the group is looking for new singers and instrumentalists to make beautiful music together.

Focussed primarily on classical music, the GCE has a reputation for delivering excellent performances, combining an intimate chamber orchestra with beautiful vocal harmonies. As the ensemble approaches its 27th season, its talented director, Brad Shipley, hopes to encourage even wider participation by offering selections from this stirring oratorio, which has become synonymous with Christmas celebrations for many.

The Fall 2025 season begins on September 8th at 6:30 pm at Christ Church on South Road, for a potluck gathering to introduce new and existing members to the session’s music. We are looking for vocal and instrumental soloists as well as ensemble members, and whether you know the Messiah well or have just heard about it and are keen to try it, we would love to see you. Our fall performance is scheduled for November 30.

We meet on Monday evenings at Christ Church on South Road. Practices are 6:00 to 7:15 pm for the orchestra and 7:15 to 9:00 pm for the choir. Fees are $100 per person, although this can be negotiated if it is prohibitive to your attendance.
