Erik Johnson is now the chair of the Gabriola Fire Protection Improvement District.
Wayne Mercier had been elected Chair of the Board following the 2025 elections.
Mercier stepped down from the Chair position in October.
Johnson was the only Trustee nominated at the November 5 meeting of the Fire Board and was elected chair by acclamation.
