Keni Rae Lorette (Weir)

1952 – 2025

With the heaviest hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Auntie Keni at Victoria’s Royal Jubilee Hospital September 9, 2025.

Predeceased by her loving husband, Dave in 2023, we are comforted at this time knowing they are together once again.

Born in Nanaimo, Keni was the oldest of two children born to Robert & Lorraine Weir (Vanger). The family stayed in Nanaimo where Keni graduated, going on to work at the Biological Station in Nanaimo – it is this career that led her to meeting the love of her life, Dave, on a fishing boat in 1979. They married in December the following year, and moved to Gabriola in 1981 after living in Vancouver for a short time. Dave continued to fish commercially while Keni worked as a Fisheries Officer for DFO, prior to the two of them operating an aggregate & excavation business for the next 40 years on Gabriola. Initially Keni worked alongside Dave running their excavator, then went on to breed/raise horses and adopt any and every animal she came across, whether Dave approved or not. Keni loved animals, her garden and her family. She devoted much of her time to her nieces during their childhoods spending countless weekends, holidays and summers with them at the farm. Keni loved to travel and explore new places, something she and Dave would do a lot of over the years.

Keni was incredibly generous, intelligent and loving. She kept memories of loved ones alive, always telling stories and reminiscing of great times. She, the great conversation, phone calls and her jovial nature will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate to know and love her. We say farewell to our beloved auntie, sister and friend.

A service will be held for all that wish to celebrate her life at 11:00am on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Nanaimo’s Trinity Catholic Church, 6234 Spartan Road.
