Dear Tobi Elliot, With respect to your tutorial essay in the May 28 Sounder I respect and appreciate your acknowledgement of the original settlers here and their history and meaningful use of land and resources. Also acknowledge the way things changed with land pre-emption, people then had no Idea, it wasn’t like the Wild West when people were slaughtered. Your essay has an underlying angry tone which I think is misdirected. Island residents are not to blame. I have lived here for 30 years and visited numerous properties all of which have been carefully stewarded and caring of their land and water to the best of their abilities. I agree with your conclusion about leaving this place more resilient. We are all in the same boat. Onward.
