From May 13 to July 18, detours will be in effect as Mainroad Mid-Island Contracting crews will be performing road base repairs on Harrison Way.
A section of Harrison is being closed to repair the deformed section of road between Chapel and McGillvary. Only that segment of road will be closed during the project, leaving the rest of Harrison open for business as usual. Mainroad staff say the road section will be dug up to repair and stabilize the base, then it will be capped off with fresh asphalt.
Those downhill of the road closure will need to access the rest of Gabriola via Easthom and Ferry Hill. Those uphill of the closure will need to do so via Pat Burns and Dirksen.
The GERTIE bus green route will be interrupted, the GERTIE crew is working out details to do whatever they can to accommodate riders in Stephens-Pat Burns-Harrison area.
The announcement from the GERTIE bus crew stated, “When a detour is in effect GERTIE will go to the end of Pat Burns and turnaround, or to Easthom and Harrison, whatever best approximates the schedule.” Check GERTIE.ca for updates on the bus schedule.
Updates on the project will be sent out via the Sounder Alerts system, send an email with subject line, “subscribe” to derek@soundernews.com to get on that list.
