Six candidates have been confirmed to run in this year’s Gabriola Fire Protection Improvement District Trustee Election.

Nominations for the 2025 election closed at 4pm on May 27.

Running in the 2025 election are:

• Chris Bowers

• Oliver Bussler

• David Chorneyko

• Paul Giffin

• Rick Jackson

• Wayne Mercier

The election and Annual General Meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

Voting booths will be open from 12pm to 7pm at the Fire Hall #1 on Church Street.

There are no advance polls or mail-in ballots available.

Board elections are held every year, typically on the same day as the District’s Annual General Meeting. Three-year terms are staggered, with two or three positions voted on each year.

For 2025, there are three positions open for election.

The three-year terms for trustees Paul Giffin and Charlene Wells are ending, two of the three positions up for election will fill their seats.

Former trustee Kent Moen resigned from the Board earlier this year, part-way through his term. A two-year position will also be filled by the June 18 election to fulfill that term.

To vote in the GFPID election, voters must meet the following voter eligibility:

• A Canadian Citizen;

• 18 years or older;

• A resident of B.C. for the last six (6) months;

• Be an owner of land located within the improvement district or the authorized agent or legal representative of a deceased owner of such land;

• Not otherwise be disqualified from voting under section 29 of the Election Act.

An All Candidates Meeting has been scheduled to be hosted by Gabriola Talks on Wednesday, June 4. It will be at 7pm at the Agi Hall.

All candidates running in the 2025 GFPID are invited to take part in the June 4 ACM.
