The election is over, but now we have a government that looks like it might actually have to work together to get things done.

As of press time, the Liberals had 167 seats projected. The NDP had 7. That could mean another coalition government. As the pundits on Election Night were saying, that might work for Canadians, but didn’t really endear the NDP to a lot of voters this time around.

Of course, there was that looming threat to the south. Voters who may have voted NDP chose to place their votes in parties which they thought had a chance of creating a Canadian government capable of dealing with the Trump dilemma.

At the end of it all though, we’re back to having a minority government.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said repeatedly in his election night speech that he is prepared to work with everyone in parliament. Everyone. Because everyone there believes in a sovereign Canada.

He is ambitious. Let’s see how far that ambition can take Canada. The results of this eletion shows that our country is clearly divided. We need polarization to remain at bay.

The task for our newly elected Prime Minister is one that can keep the country working together, taking care of Canadian sovereignty and each other.
