In preparation for the festive season, the co-op has organised a December 16 event at the Agi Hall from Noon to 4pm featuring a bonfire, carollers, mulled wine, rum & eggnog, hot chocolate, Somerset Sausage, Slow Rise Babka, wreath-making, and vendors at the Saturday Market. The celebration promises a joyful Christmas atmosphere, showcasing local talent and seasonal delights.

Michelle and Doug Smith are leading efforts to establish a Community Seed Bank on Gabriola Island with the Agi Coop, receiving positive reviews and donations from local farmers and guidance from organisations like Salt Spring Island Seed Sanctuary and Seeds of Diversity Canada.

The recent Farm to Table Feast, a resounding success, not only brought the community together post-COVID but also raised $5000 for the co-op. Lynn Bowerman and a dedicated team of volunteers orchestrated the event, which will contribute to kitchen upgrades and water system replacements in the co-op’s 90th-anniversary year.

The second edition of Apple Fest celebrated Gabriola’s beloved staple with an apple tasting that engaged nearly a hundred participants. Although not a significant fundraiser, the event showcased the community’s love for local produce, with the Cox’s Orange Pippin making a repeat appearance. Slow Rise’s Apple Fritters were a highlight, reinforcing the co-op’s commitment to community-building through shared culinary experiences.

A new chapter is about to begin for us with a grant application and rezoning efforts for a 10,000-square-foot local hub space supporting local farmers and food security It features a communal kitchen, demonstration gardens, and vendor stalls.

The Saturday Farmer’s Market, managed by Jeanette Martin, thrived this year, returning to pre-COVID attendance numbers with over 70 vendors.

The co-op anticipates the release of the BC Association of Farmers Markets’ economic study encompassing their market.

Thank you Jet!!!
