The terminal infrastructure work planned for 2026 for the Gabriola route is being changed by BC Ferries.
Steve Earle, Chair of the Gabriola Ferry Advisory Committee (FAC) said this past Monday, BC Ferries announced to FAC members that the scope of work for the marine terminal infrastructure work on the Gabriola-Nanaimo route has been changed.
Earle said the work is still scheduled to take place in the spring of 2026, and will still include the necessary upgrades for full electric ferry operation.
He said BC Ferries is planning to meet with the Gabriola community early in 2025 to explain the scope of the work.
“There will also be meetings with stakeholders on Gabriola to discuss the timing of berth closures and the provision of alternative service. More details are expected from BC Ferries before the end of this year.”
BC Ferries were contacted for details, but BCF staff were only able to confirm that there are changes coming to the project, and there would be a meeting of community stakeholders soon to discuss this.
