The Nanaimo Ladysmith Public School calendar committee has been busy working on school calendars for 2026/27, 2027/28, and 2028/29. School boards have the authority to set the calendar for schools in their district under guidelines set by the Ministry of Education and Child Care (MECC) and must submit the calendars for approval after a 30-day public consultation is complete. Each school board sets start and end dates for the school year, the length of the school day, non instructional days, and school breaks. The above must meet the instructional hours set forth by MECC.

The calendar committee considers the needs of families along with the best placement of school breaks and professional development days.

They also must take care in balancing the instructional hours between semesters for secondary students and look at neighbouring districts to try and aline calendars when able.

The proposed calendars can be found at www.sd68.bc.ca/document/3-year-local-school-calendar-2026-2029/
