Eileen Szekely

Feb. 5, 1952 – Mar. 21, 2022

On March 21, 2022 the world lost one of the most genuine, kindest and loving women, Eileen Szekely.

Eileen was born on February 5, 1952 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, moving to Fort St John with her family when she was 12.

Eileen met Les and they got married in 1973, moving to Vancouver for a few years to start their life together.

In 1981, Les and Eileen decided to start a new adventure on Gabriola Island where they raised their 2 children. Eileen worked for many years as a home support worker on the island, aiding countless people and families in the most caring way, that was her speciality.

Her ability to see the good in everyone, to love whole heartedly and be supportive in all ways was like no other. Under her sometimes quiet demeanour was a woman who loved to laugh, play games (she had a bit of a competitive streak!), garden and spend time with friends and family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life as well.

The last few years proved that Eileen was the strongest fighter despite the incredibly difficult health challenges that kept coming her way, showing just how amazing she was, all the while still shining with love, grace, kindness, her love of Yahtzee, her smile that lit up a room and patience that’s she always had.

She is survived by her children Bill (and family) and Sandy (and family) and her grandchildren.

Eileen is missed immensely by everyone who knew her and loved her.

There will be a service 11:00 am on Saturday June 25th, 2022 at the Gabriola Fellowship church, followed by a celebration of life afterwards for any one that wants to attend.
