Paul Giffin, Chair of the Gabriola Fire Protection Improvement District Board of Trustees, provided the following statement to the Sounder regarding the civil claim filed on March 18, 2025.
“The Board will not comment on ongoing litigation, other than to vigorously deny all allegations. The Board notes that the Corporate Officer was terminated in accordance with the law which will be established in our pleadings. Further, the Board has taken all allegations of bullying and harassment and financial irregularities seriously and these matters have been thoroughly and impartially investigated.
“As Board Chair, I want to acknowledge the extra-ordinary efforts of my fellow Board members.
“Over the past three months, they have devoted significant time, including weekends and short-notice meetings, to make difficult decisions in the best interests of the District. Their commitment is greatly appreciated.
“The Board remains committed to transparency and accountability in serving the District. We value the input from all members of the community and we thank you for your continued support and understanding as we navigate these complex issues.”
