Fishing Report for September 29, 2021

This past week was difficult fishing. There are small schools of Chinook in very specific spots that are feeding on selective bite times. We had productive fishing at Thrasher twice, fishing the “hook” and the Eastern Reef in 160 to 200 feet of water. Clyde and Steve did well twice at the Money Hole at Entrance fishing the afternoon low, but I fished the morning high, and caught only undersized 4 to 5 pound fish which were released. GoFish caught two Chinook at the end of Whalebone, but the rest of the shoreline back to the Grande was vacant. To add to the confusion, the immature Coho have become very aggressive, and it pays to check your gear every 15 minutes to make sure they are not occupying your hooks. The T-Rex hoochie, herring strip in clear green scale, or the Killy MaGee spoons have been the best producing lures.

There are a few Coho at Entrance and Thrasher. We caught two on small plugs at 65 to 85 feet at Entrance, and released a 8 pound wild Coho at Thrasher on a Killy MaGee at 160 feet.

The Ling and Rockfish have been cooperative on medium herring fished 40 to 70 feet deep. October 1st marks the closure of both species until May 1st.

Prawning is good, but be sure to release the berried, spawning females!

Good fishing!
