George Paul Ryan

Sep. 29, 1942 – Apr. 30, 2023

Beloved Gabriola Community member for over 20 years (full time).

Our Folklife Village got a little quieter this past spring as our dear George “left the building,” as they say. His beautiful soul was released from his pained body while he was covered in kisses, given wishes from his Gabriola family while listening to some old school Reggae… just as he loved. He will be missed greatly.

George grew up in Toronto, where he ended up working for the CBC on Mr. Dressup and the Friendly Giant.  He left Ontario heading to the West Coast of California, but leaving shortly thereafter and ending up in Vancouver before coming to Gabriola to live out his interesting beautiful life.

You could always find him in the Village ready and able to help you with anything you needed, or just to sit down and have a chat. Man, could he talk and the stories he could tell.

We truly miss our George and plan on having a Celebration of Life this September…TBA.

For all the wonderful things the PHC does for our community, donations can surely be made to them in his honour. Keeping the heart of our community going.

Big love to all out there who loved him…he was pure gold! Check out the plaque at his bench in front of library…he will live on.
