GERTIE and GVFD partner up for food & toy drive

This year’s annual food and toy drive, traditionally organized by the Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department, will be double the fun and effort with GERTIE helping out.  And it will be a two-part event, with the drive on Sunday December 12 and three lead-up days.

Instead of the usual fire truck drive around the island, the GVFD will be stationed with a decorated fire truck and a warm-up bonfire at the old north end fire hall (760 North Rd.) on Dec 12, ready and waiting for your donations.

One of the GERTIE buses will be there too, also decorated and testing out its soon-to-be new bus depot.

On December 9, 10, and 11 the GERTIE buses will have bins inside the buses for their usual rounds, and anyone can flag down a bus anywhere on its route in order to make a food/toy donation. Of course you can do the same if you are actually a passenger on the bus on any of these days.

We hope to see more donations than ever, and look forward to this and future events where GERTIE and the GVFD can contribute to the safety, well-being, and community spirit of Gabriola.
