Gabriola Community Bus Foundation
For the past decade, GERTIE (Gabriola Environmentally Responsible Trans Island Express) has been a cherished part of our community, providing convenient and eco-friendly transportation. Operated by the Gabriola Community Bus Foundation (GCBF), this non-profit service relies on a dedicated team of volunteers and a few paid staff.
In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, GCBF has secured federal grants for new buses set to arrive in 2025. This will help stabilize costs and ensure GERTIE continues to serve us well into the future.
To better meet the needs of our community, especially our seniors, GCBF is launching a new project funded by the Age-friendly Communities Program and the BC Healthy Communities Society (BCHC). We need your input to shape an age-friendly transit service. Please participate in our survey at www.gertie.ca for a chance to win great prizes!
We will be at the Saturday and Sunday markets this week. Watch for our booth and pick up a small prize. If you couldn’t make it to our Community Coffee House, join us at the Gabriola Garden Homes, 500 Argyle Lane, on June 26 from 10-11 am. Please pre-register at kathryn@molloy.ca.
Your feedback is invaluable. Let’s work together to ensure GERTIE remains a beloved part of Gabriola for years to come!
