Submitted by Chris Bowers for the Gabriola Island Singers

It’s that time of year, and Gabriola Island Singers are excited to sing in Spring with a spectacular lineup of love songs.

Ranging from Barbie to ballads, and show-casing the stunningly  beautiful “All I Have to Bring Today”, Music Director Scott Knight has assembled a programme meant to ensure you leave our April 12 concert in tune with the season.

And. The Band is back! Phil Frisson (percussion), Michael MacKinnon (guitar), and Brian McMahon (bass) will accompany us again, while Clive Martin will be joining us for the first time with his fiddle. They will all be augmenting the energy on a few of our favourite songs.

Other special guests include the Gabriola Brass, who we are always delighted to welcome. Composed of John David Harrison, (trumpet and flugel horn) Rose Boulton (trumpet and flugel horn), Janet Summers (French horn), Trevor Gale (euphonium), and John Capon (bass trombone and tuba) they are regular audience favourites at our concerts.

In the just plain fun department are two (2!) train songs – because we love trains – and one about the joys of slapping flies in “Ontar-I-O” in which no flies nor choir members will be harmed.

All that, plus a little bit of John Lennon thrown in, because in these times we all need the healing and determination that comes from imagining a better world. Saturday April 12th, Community Hall. Doors 2pm. $25 at the door, children 12 and under are free.
