Gabriola Arts Council

Amidst the pineapple express, Isle of the Arts registrations are chugging away! Have you hopped onto the train? You still have time! IoTA: Who We Are brings 11 days of arts-based teaching, learning, reflecting, and growing to our community. We invite you especially to our opening and closing events:

Join us on Thursday March 27 at the Gabriola Fellowship for Reading and Reconciliation: Two Books, One Community, with Gabriola’s own Shelagh Rogers and David A. Robertson, in conversation about Who We Are: Four Questions for a Life and a Nation, by the late Honourable Murray Sinclair, and Robertson’s All the Little Monsters: How I Learned to Live With Anxiety. Doors open at 5:30, conversation starts at 6:00, with Bannock served by Lorna Johnny and copies of both books for sale on site by Nova Boutique and Gallery–bring yours or buy some and get them autographed!

IoTA culminates with a day full of dancing, on Saturday April 5 at the Gabriola Community Hall. From 1:00-5:45 pm, join our Dance Class Marathon, including expressive dance for self discovery and joy, non-partner line and circle dances from around the world, the globally shared South African Gumboot Dance, and West Coast Swing. You don’t need a partner! Just bring your dancing shoes–or your wellies–and get moving & grooving! Come hungry because we’ll have Nanaimo’s Taco Papi with us all afternoon and into the night.

Finish off the marathon strong, or loop in for the evening from 7:00-9:30 pm, at GAC’s IoTA Prom! Dust off your prom clothes, wear what you wished you could have, or test drive a new look! We’ve got broadband and DJ Gwen Spinks rockin’ the dance floor, a cash bar, tacos galore, a silent auction with amazing items donated by our local businesses, a DIY corsage station, and Prom photos with our beloved Bill Pope. Come at your spiffiest–as a couple, with friends, or fly solo! Who knows, maybe you’ll find your date at the dance!

Get your tickets for these and all IoTA events online at artsgabriola.ca/isle-of-the-arts-festival/! We can’t wait to see you there.
