Kerry Sorrenti
(nee Maloney)
Kerry passed away suddenly in Calgary on Saturday August 5th. Barely a month before her 70th birthday, she will be sadly missed by her husband of 40 years Jordan, and her two sons Liam and Paddy and daughter-in-law Tara, and granddaughter Rosie. She will also be missed by her siblings, Peter and wife Kathy, Mary Flint (nee Maloney) and her husband John, and brother John and his wife Pat, and their families in Ontario. Everyone will miss Kerry’s wonderful hospitality, love for music and passion for books. Growing up in St. Thomas Ontario, the family moved to Windsor when Kerry was a pre-teen. She went to the University of Windsor and graduated with an honours’ degree in science and a teaching certificate. She met Jordan when he was a fledgling restaurateur in London Ontario. They married and moved to Calgary in 1986 owning and operating several restaurants (Sorrenti’s Restaurant, Sorrenti’s Catering and Paddy’s Barbecue & Brewery). They bought their cottage on Gabriola in 1996 which they replaced with their lovely home in 2003. And anyone who ever had the pleasure of being entertained by Kerry and Jordan, will remember Kerry’s amazing skill at curating her antiquities and making her home unique and welcoming. Kerry was involved in the Gabriola community and was a Board Member for People for a Healthy Community for a number of years. She and Jordan returned to Calgary 6 years ago, and Kerry resumed the accounting and payroll for the business. Apart from work, she was an avid walker and enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and the Calgary Food Bank. As her cousin who knew her all my life, I have amazing memories of being at lakes in northern Ontario together, going to the CNE in Toronto, taking watercolour classes, attending several book clubs and drinking many lovely glasses of wine together.
