Laura Patrick has served the Salt Spring Island Local Trust Area since 2018 and steps into the leadership role with a commitment to advancing the Islands Trust’s preserve and protect mandate.

Patrick has also been appointed to serve as the Chair for the Gabriola Local Trust Committee (LTC), and has already served in that role with last week’s Special Meeting to discuss the review of the Gabriola Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw.

“It is an honour to be elected as Chair of Islands Trust Council,” said Chair Patrick. “As we navigate the challenges and priorities ahead, I am committed to working collaboratively with my fellow trustees to make progress on the issues that matter to islanders. The work of local trust committees, Bowen Island Municipality, and the Islands Trust Conservancy is essential in this, and I look forward to supporting continued cooperative efforts to preserve and protect the Islands Trust Area.”

The Chair of Islands Trust Council guides discussions at Islands Trust Council, Islands Trust Executive Committee, and certain local trust committee meetings, and acts as the spokesperson for the organization. Trustees across the Islands Trust Area will continue their work, ensuring local decision-making remains responsive and aligned with local priorities and the preserve and protect mandate. Outgoing Chair Peter Luckham, who has served three terms as Islands Trust Council Chair, will continue as a trustee for the Thetis Island Local Trust Area. Throughout his tenure, he has been a dedicated leader, bringing passion and commitment to the role. The Islands Trust Council thanks Peter Luckham for his years of service as Chair and looks forward to his continued contributions as a trustee.
