Laurie Lynn Webster

June 13, 1953 – July 14, 2023

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Laurie Lynn Webster, of Gabriola Island, at the age of 70 years.

Laurie was born to George and Margaret Webster in Sperling, Manitoba. She spent her childhood on the farm and ice fishing on Lake Winnipeg. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Social Work. During the 36+ years she devoted to her career, Laurie was fondly known for her compassion and professionalism by her co-workers; often having a lineup at her door vying for a tidbit of her sharp and thoughtful advice.

Laurie married the love of her life, Peter Danenhower, on Aug 12, 1989, after being set up on a blind date by their shared dentist. The 37 years they had together was filled with love, laughter, and friendship in a relationship their family describes as truly symbiotic. Together, Laurie and Peter designed and built their dream home themselves on Gabriola Island, while living and working in Vancouver. Laurie had a keen eye for design and was a deal-finding queen; often planning entire rooms around antiques and pre-adored furnishings.

Laurie, a lover of bright colours, prints, and patterns, was a voracious quilter. She donated hundreds of children’s quilts she made over the years to women’s shelter’s. Her passion for textiles shone in her handmade blouses and their joyful prints and took her on fun fabric finding missions with loved ones. Laurie was thoughtful, kind and charismatic – her quick wit matched that of the quirky, British comedies she liked to watch when she wasn’t busy sewing.

Like the quilts and home she so beautifully crafted, Laurie stitched her friends and family together with a great amount of love, care and good humour. She is survived by her husband Peter Danenhower and her nephew Rob Webster and his family, as well as an abundance of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.

A memorial service will be held at the Gabriola Golf Club on Aug. 3 at 1pm. Tea, coffee, snacks and a cash bar will be provided. In lieu of flowers please send donations to People for Healthy Communities (PHC).
