MAY’d on the Rock

MAY’d on the ROCK is an inaugural event bringing together Gabriola’s artists, makers, and performers for a weekend of creativity and community. Tammie Hennigar of Fishhead Studio gathered interested talent. After two meetings and a lot of enthusiasm, Carol Fergusson of golden gnome arts inc. was asked to make it happen—so she did!

On Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18, from 10am to 4pm, 43 open locations for a self-guided adventure around the island will feature studios, markets, galleries, and group showings – free admission. A relaxed presentation of what we make on Gabriola, including demonstrations and active studios. But the fun doesn’t stop there—four ticketed concerts will showcase Gabriola’s vibrant music scene. On Saturday evening, there’s something for everyone. An old school long weekend dance party at the Community Hall, Tangled Roots and Guests raising money for PHC at the Gabriola Arts & Heritage Centre, Paul Gellman and Friends singing in Spring at the Golf Course, and on Sunday an enchanted evening of singer-songwriter excellence at the Phoenix. (Pssst and an opening party on May 16 for participants and creatives only…getting all those creative vibes in one place for a good time.)

There’s more! Sunday evening also features a by-donation dance performance by Mara Brenner’s Gabriola Dance Performance Team (6 PM at GAHC) and two Improv Theatre workshops for youth and adults (Sat/Sun 4:30-6:30pm Agi Hall). All tickets can be purchased via simpli.events/u/maydontherock or by emailing maydontherock@gmail.com for e-transfers.
