The Good Food Box program is back on Gabriola, thanks to the partnership between Nanaimo Foodshare, and Gabriola’s People for a Healthy Community (PHC).

The program allows for participants to buy a box of produce worth $20 to $25 for $10 or $15 on a weekly, biweekly, or less frequent basis. Pickup will be from 12pm to 3pm on Thursdays at PHC. Any boxes that aren’t collected will be automatically donated to the PHC food programs.

Emily Carson-Apstein is the Food Programs Coordinator for People for a Healthy Community. She said there were 27 people signed up in the first two days that registration was open.

“The Good Food Box Program first ran as a successful pilot in 2020 and they approached us over the summer about restarting it again.”

Carson-Apstein said the important part for people to remember is that registration happens through the Nanaimo Foodshare (https://nanaimogoodfoodbox.com/order), “and you choose Gabriola as a pick-up location.”

The first Gabriola delivery will be November 23rd and it will be continuing every week except December 28th for Christmas.

If anyone would rather pay cash they can order through PHC, and any questions should be directed to me at food@phcgabriola.org or 250-247-7322.”

Those wishing to donate directly to the program, are also asked to contact Carson-Apstein at the PHC office.
