Annual funding to the Gabriola Arts Council has been extended for another three-year term.

The Regional District of Nanaimo board of directors approved the $7,500 in annual funding through December 2026 in advance of the current agreement’s expiration this December.

At the Oct. 5 electoral area services committee meeting, Electoral Area B Director Vanessa Craig said the agreement was being “proactively” extended in order for the RDN to provide a letter of support for the arts council’s 2024 grant funding applications to the Department of Canadian Heritage and the BC Arts Council, including for the arts council’s summer Cultivate Festival.

The Gabriola Arts Council began receiving $5,000 per year from the RDN in 2018.

In 2021, Craig and the board supported an increase to $7,500, which was less than what the Arts Council requested as an increase.
