To those concerned for the future of our LGBTQ youth. And to those who have questions about pronouns or the importance of gender affirming healthcare.
In a local and global climate of hostility towards queer and trans people, a group of concerned Gabriolans is gathering to host an event to inspire discussion and hopefully assuage fears around gender diversity.
There will be a screening of the Canadian film Krow’s Transformation, followed by a question and answer period with the filmmaker, others involved in the film, and local Gabriolans with personal experience with trans issues.
The night will end with a dance party to celebrate gender diversity on Gabriola.
Krow’s Transformation explores the journey of a model who began his career as a woman, and documents his transition and journey to walking the runways of Paris as his true self.
The film is intended for teen and adult audiences, and all are welcome for the dance party starting around 9:30pm.
We especially welcome community members who want to learn more about the transgender experience in order to support their trans friends or family, or become better local and global allies for the queer community.
If you want to support queer and trans Gabriolans but aren’t sure where to begin, this is a great place to start the conversation!
If you’re unsure about terminology and concerned about why this is suddenly such a big issue, this is a great place to learn more.
Illuminating Identities: A Community Discussion on Gender Diversity will take place at the Gabriola Theatre Centre, 1475 Peterson Rd, on Saturday March 1st.
Doors at 6:30, film at 7pm, dance party starting around 9:30. Tickets are $20 and available on the Gabriola Theatre Centre’s website or at the door if space allows.
