The Gabriola Island Chamber of Commerce (GICC) is preparing for its upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Business Award Ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, February 7th at the Agi Hall from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

This event is welcome to all and provides a review of the Chamber’s activities, an opportunity to discover ways to get involved, and a celebration of local business excellence.

This marks the Chamber’s first in-person AGM in the past few years.

The highlight of the evening will undoubtedly be the announcement of the 2023 Business Award winners, recognizing outstanding contributions to the Gabriola Island business community.

The awards cover Business of The Year, Best New Business, and Under 40 Entrepreneur. Business owners, residents, and supporters of the island’s economy eagerly await the unveiling of the deserving recipients.

The annual Business Awards shines a community spotlight on all the hard work that owners (and their staff members) contributed last year, during the current winter season that allows for pause and reflection. But the Business Awards are about more than recognition. We have a diverse island economy of sectors that include tourism, agriculture, health and wellness, manufacturing, arts, and so much more. The shared experience of celebrating achievements by bringing businesses together fosters a sense of belonging and encourages collaboration within the community. The Business Awards can also serve as a source of inspiration and motivation for small businesses to pursue their goals and make positive local contributions. “We want individuals to reach their full potential on Gabriola and in turn be able to make meaningful contributions to the community” says Erin.

The 2022 Business of the Year winner, Nature Spirit Earth Market, notes: “for us the impact of the Business of the Year Award has been huge! Being recognized by the community in this way feels like we have finally “made it” and are viewed as an important piece of island life. We have worked hard to be here for our community in a meaningful way and were truly honoured to be recognized last year.”

Attendees on Wednesday, February 7th will also be entered to win some great local prizes. The Chamber giveaways add an element of fun to the evening. For local businesses, the GICC Annual Business Awards are a chance to touch base with one another, the Chamber, and relax before the year ahead.

“We would love to see you there,” says Chamber President, Graham Bradley. “The AGM is not just a meeting; it’s a celebration of our vibrant businesses on Gabriola. It’s a chance for everyone to come together, learn, and be inspired by the successes of our local entrepreneurs.”
